Foodie events in Calgary between now and Christmas

While this blog is not specifically Calgary-based, this particular post will focus solely on cuisine-culture events happening in Calgary between now and Christmas 2013.

1. Christmas in Banff
Heading to Banff for some winter magic before November 24 to get into the Christmas mood? “Bon Appetit- Banff” has various restaurants ranging from Greek to Pub to even as class as it gets, offering three-course prix fixe of as little as $25.00. Find out what restaurants are participating here.

2. Seafood Frenzy
For about $50, you can have ocean-friendly chowder made by some of the top chefs in Calgary heralding from the most prestigious restaurants in town (Model Milk, River Café, Rouge, Craft; to name a few).  This event takes place on November 18, 2013, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in support of sustainable seafood, put on by the Vancouver Aquarium. Seafood lovers rejoice! Find  out more information and buy tickets here.

3. Heritage Park
For a truly old-fashioned Christmas experience, Heritage Park has several different food-focused events throughout the weekends of November and December. These include a support dinner for Rosebud Theatre on December 2, Christmas in the Plaza on December 4, and a New Years dinner at the Selkirk Grille on December 31.

4. Rising Stars
Support the future of culinary talent! Until December 12, the lunch buffet at Sait’s Highwood café can be enjoyed for only $24, and the dinner menu for only $46. The meals are created by students and instructors of The School of Hospitality and Tourism, and has become known for its incredibly tasty dishes. It is not open everyday though, so make sure to make bookings here

5. Food Trucks
How about a Christmas-themed outing from start to finish? The City of Calgary has many free skating rinks open mid-December, but the rink at Olympic Plaza downtown is open right now. On your way to or from the rink, swing by one of the many wonderful food trucks available for a gourmet meal on wheels. Click this link for a complete listing of food trucks, and a real time map of which are open and where they are located. Just don't forget the mittens and the thermos of hot chocolate!
